We are rolling (literally).

A little overdue for an update, interwebz world, but what an update it is!

Wednesday, February 15th marked our very first practice as a league, and what a fantastic practice it was.

For some of us, it was just a bit of an extended off season, but for others it has been a few months to a full year before slipping those boots on and rolling onto that polished wood floor.  There were nerves and anticipation about the first practice, but so much excitement, enthusiasm and energy (love the alliteration, right?).

Since it had been quite awhile for many skaters, we focused on basic skills (in preparation for the WFTDA minimum skills test) as well as endurance/muscle building drills on the track.  Although basic, we practiced hard and began setting personal goals (hello! turn around toe stops!) and we definitely were feeling the burn by the next morning.  The consensus: feels super good to be back on skates and even better to be part of such an amazing group of women.

Not only was it a motivational practice, but the generosity and support of the rink owners continues to impress us (shout out to Skatetime 209 in Accord, NY). Len
was happy to show us around, explain how to use the audio and video equipment, and even told us to help ourselves to drinks! We are incredibly lucky to have such a great relationship with our home rink.

In other news:

  • Our logo contest ends in ONE WEEK (!), so get those entries in and be part of something big (www.midhudsonmisfits.com for more details).
  • We have a party in the works, so stay tuned for all that awesome information, we will not disappoint, as it’s already seeming to be killer!
  • Following our party we will be holding some clinics for those interested in derby as a way to meet us as well as see what types of skills you will be tested on at tryouts.
  • Tryouts will be immediately following the two weeks of clinics, again, all dates are TBA, so sit tight!
